Welcome letter

Prof Abdul Basit

President I Diabetes in Asia Study Group (DASG)

It is my privilege to welcome you to the Diabetes in Asia Study Group (DASG), a platform that has been instrumental in advancing diabetes care, research, and advocacy throughout the Asia region since its formation in 2006. As we reflect on our journey, we are reminded of the significant challenges we face due to the alarming rise in diabetes prevalence across Asia and the Middle East. Diabetes now affects more than 540 million people globally, with our region seeing one of the most rapid increases.
At DASG, we are committed to promoting awareness, supporting research, and fostering collaboration among professionals who are on the frontlines of this critical health issue. Through periodic meetings, conferences, and studies, we strive to enhance our understanding of diabetes and its impact across diverse populations. Our mission extends beyond research and education; we actively engage with governments, non-governmental organizations, and global institutions like IDF, EASD, ADA, AASD and WHO to create actionable strategies that improve diabetes management and prevention in Asia.
We take pride in our official journal, the Journal of Diabetology (JOD), which serves as a peer-reviewed platform for sharing the latest advancements in diabetes care. Launched in 2010, the journal has become a valuable resource for healthcare professionals, researchers, and advocates alike.
As we look to the future, DASG will continue to encourage the development of human resources and strengthen our capacity to tackle the growing diabetes crisis in Asian countries. Together, with your active involvement and dedication, we can make meaningful strides in improving the lives of those affected by diabetes across Asia.
Lastly, I would like to express my deep gratitude to our dynamic colleague, Mr. Ashraf, for his continuous and sincere efforts in developing our new DASG website after a relatively long period without an active site. Thank you for your continued support and commitment.

Journal of Diabetology

Journal of Diabetology (JOD) is the official journal of Diabetes in Asia Study Group (DASG). It was started by DASG in 2010 as a peer-reviewed journal with 3 issues published annually. To improve its visibility and ease of access, an online platform was created exclusively for the journal (http://www.journalofdiabetology.org )in December 2016 and all the issues published till then were archived in the online portal. From January 2017, all the issues of the journal are being published online on its website. The journal allows free access (Open Access) to its contents and permits authors to self-archive final accepted version of the articles on any OAI-compliant institutional / subject-based repository.

The journal has wide readership by clinicians, researchers and other allied health professionals in the field of diabetes and its viewership has increased tremendously in the past two years. More than 98000 users from ten different countries have visited the website so far. Owing to its increasing popularity and the huge number of manuscripts being received, the number of issues published per year has been increased to 4 from 2021. JOD is now an online free quarterly journal published by Medknow, a part of Wolters Kluwer Health. The current issue and all the archived issues can be accessed in the JOD website http://www.journalofdiabetology.org
