Introduction and Objectives.

Diabetes in Asia Study Group is a non - profit organization, formed in a meeting held in Cape town, aimed to create awareness , to promote and encourage researches in characterization of Diabetes with in regions. Individuals with in the field of research, diabetes care and advocacy will be eligible for membership. Explore the site and direct us to improve the quality of both the design and layout of the site as well as the activities of this group.

A meeting was held in Cape Town on 2/12/2006, to establish Diabetes in Asia Study Group, to promote awareness of diabetes, to encourage research in the characterization of diabetes within the regions, to promote exchange of opinions, and foster advocacy. This group is a continuation of the Diabetes in Asia Conferences, a movement that was started in 1999.

Strategies to achieve the objectives

  • 1. Holding periodic meetings and conferences.
  • 2. Conducting studies to characterize the state of diabetes within the Asian Regions.
  • 3. Promoting the publications of activities and guidelines.
  • 4. Active involvement of governments and non-governmental organizations.
  • 5. Seeking active collaboration with national and international groups such as (IDF and WHO).
  • 6. Encouraging the development of human resources to increase our capacity to fight diabetes in Asia

1. Aims

The aim of Diabetes in Asia Study Group (DASG) is to promote awareness of diabetes, to encourage research in the field of diabetes and related disorders, to promote exchanges of opinions and to foster advocacy for the benefit of the Asian people. This in turn would lead to better strategies for diagnosis, care and prevention of diabetes. DASG is the successor to a series of conferences under the banner of Diabetes in Asia initiated in 1999.

2. Membership

Individuals within the fields of diabetes care, research, and advocacy will be eligible to be members of DASG.

Individuals wishing to be members should make a written application to the secretary, which will then be considered by the committee for approval. The annual membership fee will be 10 $, payable to DASG.

Any individual medical, para medical or lay working or interested in the field of diabetes Research, Care and Prevention whether resident or non-resident in the continent of Asia will be eligible for membership subject to the payment of a statutory annual fee applicable at the time. Applications for membership, should be made using the official form, and addressed to the secretary of DASG.

3. Mission

Diabetes in Asia Study Group (DASG) aimed to promote education and awereness of diabetes, to encourage research in the field of diabetes and related disorders, to promote exchanges of opinions and to faster advocacy. This in turn would lead to better strategies for diagnosis, care and prevention of diabetes.

The Doha conference was a success. The Doha conference saw the birth of the journal of DASG, Journal of Diabetology(www.journalofdiabetology.org) thanks to the tireless efforts of Abdul Basit, the editor, and Akhtar Hussain, deputy editor.
